Waterfowl Hunting
Waterfowl hunting has a large following in our part of Pennsylvania even though it is not one of the greatest locations in the state to undertake the challenge of hunting ducks and geese. The southeast and south central portions of Pennsylvania are widely known for their especially good Canada goose and Snow goose hunting. Our portion of the state has a decent population of resident geese and transient ducks, mostly Mallards.
Recently I introduced my son to to waterfowl hunting. The challenge in getting ducks and geese to respond to your decoys and calls makes it a very interactive hunting experience. He has learned a lot and met some great folks along the way.
A recent hunt delivered a banded Mallard and what I call the Franken duck, a half-mallard half-farm duck crossbreed.

We recently traveled to southeast Penssylvania to try our luck at Canada goose hunting. We selected Honker Down Waterfowl Adventure and went with one of his guides, Rick. The morning was windy and extremely cold as we setup in a corn field along the edge of a wheat field. We had a great time but didn't get the chance at any geese, primarily due to the cold and wind which kept them on the roost all day. Rick was a great guy and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the field with him. It's not always about the shooting but the entire experience and meeting new people.
